The monumental building marks the friendship between two peoples, and what it can achieve both materially and culturally. The fraternal spirit takes on three dimensions in Pampulha Ecological Park. We are reminded that friendship between peoples is part of HUMAN ECOLOGY, pointing the way to our survival on the planet. We are confronted by metaphors: The bridge, that since the genesis of human ingenuity, has taught us to overcome obstacles without belittling or destroying them. The curving, symmetrical and enfolding path, like a friend´s embrace, feet off the ground, bringing together ideas from Japan and Brazil. The lake, that sometimes blocks the way, then reflects, now shows and yet conceals in its depths the struggles, sentiments and pains. Iron and steel from our land form the structure of the building, brought up from our inner depths, our atavism, our defiance.

When art and architecture meet, we can see how beautiful they nourish each other. Congratulations Gustavo, you made clear your feeling that architecture could claim to be the highest of the arts and expression of values and meaning.

It is wonderful to watch the talent of the Brazilian Architecture when we are so far away.
